Cultural Resource Service
Sadler & Whitehead PLC has been selected to provide ongoing Cultural Resource Services to the Navy’s Atlantic Division under an annual contract. The contract has allowed us to continue earlier consulting work provided to the Navy in teams with TAMS Consultants (NYC), Rodriguez Ripley Maddux Motley (Norfolk), Peter McDearmon Witt Architect (Richmond), Kimble David Architectural Historian (Norfolk), and Hector Santiago Cazull (San Juan, PR). Work to date has focussed on Norfolk Navy Base, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, and Naval Security Group Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico.
The resources we consider on the Navy’s behalf include early 19th century architectural treasures such as the Naval Hospital designed by John Haviland and Quarters A, B, and C at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Much of our effort is focussed on evaluating Navy properties built during the first half of the 20th century; properties that help us to understand World Wars I and II, as well as the Cold War.
Work we complete on the Navy’s behalf is done in compliance with Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended.
